Plants To Compliment Your Roses

A Selection Of Plants To Compliment Your Roses

With the countdown to Spring on the horizon it’s worth taking a little time to plan your garden for the Summer.

Roses need friends or companion plants around them for a variety of reasons, including pest and disease control and to create a longer season of interest.

When looking for plants to compliment your roses there is a wide range to choose from. You also need to consider that they will not only share the space in the garden with your roses but will also create a serene balance.

Make sure the plants that you do choose have the same growing requirements as your roses. Roses do best in full sun and a well drained soil. Therefore their companions should share similar water, fertiliser and treatments if required.

Texture, colour and form are also important in your selection of companion plants. As plants with tall spires complement the wide cup shaped flowers of roses, while shrubs and perennials with pale green, purple or silver leaves accentuate the beautiful blooms of your roses.

So don’t be afraid to experiment and find out what works for you and your design. If you keep within these simple guidelines you should produce something truly amazing….
