Where Do We Start?

It’s July 21st 2014 and after a goodnights sleep in our new abode I can’t wait to take another look at our garden. I’ve been dreaming about it for months and desperate to get started on it.  The plants I’ve managed to keep alive really do need to be planted in their new home as soon as possible.

As we fling open our shutters this is what we are greeted with. We thought it would be a great idea to take some before and after images so we can see the gardens progress taking shape, here’s a few I’d like to share with you so you can see the scale of this garden project.

As the garden is going to be my domain to work on as gardening it’s one of my life’s  passions.  I’ve decided I want this garden to contain different themed gardens within the garden as a whole. I’ve got a folder full of ideas and possibilities I’ve brought with us. We’re led to believe from our estate agent the garden has been abandoned for around 4 years maybe more.

Time to crack on with the job in hand of clearing the garden, temperatures at heading back up into the 30’s again today so we’ll be plastered in sun cream and adoring our sun hats and have plenty of drinking water at the ready as we make a start.  After trying every garden tool available to us from our strimmer and fly- mower, which both lasted about 5 minutes to finally a neighbours sit on mower the 6ft high grass, nettles and brambles have been cleared. I finally have a blank canvas to start working on.

I shall also be tackling that hedge today.  As you can see it needs quite a bit of attention and runs the full length of the garden and is  quite unique.  Simply by being one level on one side of the hedge, which drops at least 6 foot to the road and another level on the garden side.

We’ve just bought an electric hedge trimmer to help make lighter work of this job. Having tried handheld cutters in the past there great for the small jobs but today the electric cutter idea is to me the best option to tackle this monster.

After a really back breaking day we are rewarded with a cleared garden. Think it’s time for a soak, (well maybe just our feet as we’ve just realise we don’t have a bathroom) and a glass of French wine….

That’s me signing of for now.
